Brownies with nuts and caramel

Brownies with nuts and caramel are a decadent treat that combines rich chocolate brownies with the sweet, buttery flavor of caramel and the crunch of nuts. Here’s a recipe for making these delicious brownies:

Ingredients:

For the Brownie Batter:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (optional, for extra chocolatey brownies)

For the Caramel Sauce:

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Nuts:

  • 1/2 cup (60g) chopped nuts (e.g., pecans, walnuts, or almonds), lightly toasted if desired

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Caramel Sauce:

  1. Make the Caramel:
    • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly with a heat-resistant spatula or wooden spoon. The sugar will clump before it melts—just keep stirring.
    • Once the sugar is completely melted and has turned a deep amber color, carefully add the butter, stirring continuously. The mixture will bubble up.
    • Remove from heat and slowly add the heavy cream while stirring. Be cautious, as it will bubble vigorously. Stir until the caramel is smooth.
    • Stir in the salt and set the caramel aside to cool slightly.

2. Prepare the Brownies:

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. Melt Butter:

    • In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the butter. Let it cool slightly.
  3. Mix Ingredients:

    • Whisk the sugar into the melted butter until well combined.
    • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
    • Sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder, then gradually fold them into the butter mixture until just combined.
    • Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  4. Assemble the Brownies:

    • Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
    • Drizzle a portion of the caramel sauce over the batter.
    • Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the caramel.
    • Spoon the remaining brownie batter over the nuts and caramel, spreading it evenly. Swirl the top layer with a knife to marble the caramel slightly.
  5. Bake:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but not wet batter.
    • Let the brownies cool in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares.

Tips:

  • Cool Completely: For clean cuts, allow the brownies to cool completely before slicing. Refrigerating them for a bit can also help.
  • Customize: Feel free to add additional mix-ins like white chocolate chips or toffee bits for extra flavor.

Enjoy your brownies with nuts and caramel—an indulgent dessert that’s sure to be a hit!
